At a Shabbat table somewhere in North America, one child is planning to make aliyah while another has just returned from a protest for Palestine. 

Their parents love them both. Their communities shaped them both. 

And suddenly, the table that once held everyone is not sure how to hold this difference.

Israel's standing in public opinion has fallen to a historic low. For the first time in 25 years of tracking, Americans no longer sympathize more with Israel than with the Palestinians, and among those under 35, a majority now sympathize more with the Palestinians. (Gallup, 2026)

These numbers are a picture of our communal future. In a few years, these young adults will be the parents, teachers, clergy, board members, and donors shaping Jewish life. They have questions, and feel anger, grief, and alienation around Israel. Some already feel that the Jewish community has no place for them.

If communities respond by sidelining, expelling, or silencing them, we will not solve the problem. We will deepen it.

The Jewish people have survived for thousands of years not because we agreed, but because we argued and remained responsible for one another. Disagreement is not a threat to Jewish life. It is one of its deepest inheritances. 

What we are at risk of losing is not the argument itself, but the ability to argue without contempt and exile.

For the Sake of Argument exists to strengthen the sacred tradition of arguing for the sake of heaven. We train leaders, educators, and communities to move toward the conversations we tend to avoid.
